Cold Lake, AB – Cold Lake City Council voted to provide Cold Lake First Nations with a letter of support for an expansion to Casino Dene.
The request was considered after the City received a letter detailing the planned expansion from Cold Lake First Nations Chief Kelsey Jacko.
“Cold Lake First Nations is an important partner in economic development and a valued neighbour,” Craig Copeland said. “Council was happy to support their project to expand Casino Dene.”
The planned expansion will add 6,000 square feet to the casino’s existing 20,000 square feet, allowing for more gaming options at the facility. Cold Lake First Nations estimates dozens of construction jobs will be created in 2024 and 2025 and an additional five permanent jobs will result from the project’s completion.
Casino Dene currently employs over 85 people.
“Casino Dene is an important economic engine for Cold Lake First Nations and the jobs that the casino and Primco Dene create are an important part of our region’s economy,” Copeland said. “We have a strong history of collaboration on economic development initiatives that our communities take on, and this decision furthers the important relationship between the City and Cold Lake First Nations.”
