During an election year, this page will contain information to assist voters and candidates, including nomination forms and requirements, a list of officially nominated candidates, and information about voting locations and advance voting dates.
Those interested in running for City Council may choose to run for either Mayor or Councillor. Information packages and forms are available as of Jan. 1, 2025. Please print and fill out all forms before bringing them to City Hall, along with the $200 deposit for nomination.
Nominations will appear within two business days of their verification, listed in alphabetical order by last name.

At the voting station, voters must provide identification that proves your identity and current residence. Any of the of the following documents with the voter’s name and address will be accepted:
A letter or form confirming a person lives at a stated address will also be accepted. The letter can be signed prior to the vote by an authorized representative of the following:
If a voter’s identification shows a post office box number as the address instead of a residential or legal address, it can be accepted as verification of their current address if it is a reasonable distance to the voting jurisdiction. |

General information on Municipal Elections |
Municipal elections are held in Alberta every four years. The last election was held October 18, 2021. Cold Lake voters elected the current City Council. The next election will be held on October 20, 2025.
Voters in Cold Lake elect one Mayor and six Councillors. The Mayor and City Councillors are elected "at large", meaning each elected official represents every resident of the city. The Local Authorities Election Act governs municipal Elections in Alberta. It sets out rules and regulations for candidates, voters, donors, and election administrators that must be followed before, during and after an election. Additionally, Cold Lake's Election Bylaw establishes rules specific to the City of Cold Lake's municipal elections. |
