The operation of Taxis and issuance of Taxi Driver Permits are regulated by the City of Cold Lake in accordance with Taxi Bylaw #611-PL-17.
To apply for a Taxi Driver Permit, you will require the following information:
The completed application form and supporting documentation can be submitted to the Planning & Development department at City Hall. Your application will be reviewed by a Community Peace Officer in accordance with the requirements specified in Section 5 of the Taxi Bylaw
If your application is approved, we will contact you to bring the $70 application fee to pick up your permit. Permits are valid for 365 days from the date of issuance.
If your application is declined, a letter will be provided stating why your application does not meet the requirements of the Bylaw. The appeals process is outlined in Section 6 of the Bylaw.
All vehicles operated as taxis in the City of Cold Lake must meet the requirements outlined in the Bylaw and must have a mechanical inspection conducted by a licensed mechanic every 12 months. All vehicles being operated as taxis must be registered with the City of Cold Lake and carry a valid registration sticker issued by the City on the windshield. There is no fee to register a taxi with the City. Please refer to Section 4 of the Bylaw for further information.
