The City of Cold Lake operates the Regional Waste Transfer Station and two public recycling drop-off sites. Waste collection is operated by the Infrastructure Services department. For more information, email infrastructure@coldlake.com or call 780-594-4496.
The City provides curbside collection of household waste, recycling and organics. Waste is collected weekly, while recycling and organics are collected bi-weekly on alternating weeks. Waste and recycling are collected year round, while household organic waste is collected April 1 to November 15. During the winter months, organics can be dropped off at the compost site located at the Transfer Station, free of charge.
Organic Waste collection at the curb is now in full swing. All households within the City's limits received a new green organics cart in the fall of 2022. All organic waste must be placed inside the green cart in order to be collected by our Automated Collection Vehicles.
Compost bags and bundles of branches will not be accepted at the curb, with the exception of special collection days. Please check back on this page and watch the City social media pages for updates. For more information on the Organic Waste program (what is considered organic waste and how it should be handled), see the Organics, Recycling & Waste Collection Guide. *If you did not receive a green cart, please call Public Works at 780-594-4496.
The City of Cold Lake will be running a 12 week pilot program in partnership with FoodCycle Science to provide 100 FoodCycler™ waste recycler units to residents who wish to register for the program.
This pilot projects aims to see how the City can reduce the amount of waste that is taken to the Cold Lake Transfer Station. Registration will open Nov. 8, 2024 with units being available to the public towards the end of 2024.
