Cold Lake, AB – City Council will be providing support to the Bonnyville and District Chamber of Commerce in the form of sponsorship for this year’s Bonnyville Oil & Gas Show (BOAGS).

During the May 9 regular council meeting, Bonnyville and District Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Serina Parsons, presented to council the opportunity to support this regional event, which aims to showcase the local Oil and Gas industry. The BOGAS allow local oil and gas companies to promote their services, along with current and future projects within the Lakeland, as well as networking with industry producers. The BOAGS is a bi-annual event, but has been on a three-year hiatus due to Covid-19 restrictions. The last BOAGS was held in 2019.

This presentation was then discussed amongst Council during the May 23 regular meeting. Even though the initial ask by the Bonnyville and District Chamber of Commerce was $5000, there were various levels of sponsorship available for consideration by council. 

Council noted that while the event does take place outside the City of Cold Lake, the nature of this event has a wide reach and affects many residents who work in the Oil and Gas industry. Providing support for an organization outside the city is unprecedented, but council recognized the importance of supporting an industry that affects a large portion of the Cold Lake residents.  

“Cold Lake is a bedroom community for the Oil and Gas industry in the Lakeland region,” Mayor Craig Copeland said. “Many services such as retail and restaurants in the City rely on income from this industry. I think that returning that support helps strengthen our relationships with our neighbouring communities and their workforce.” 

Council ultimately decided that a $2500 “Moose” level of sponsorship would be provided to the Bonnyville and District Chamber to help contribute to the success of the event.
