Income Tax Screening Clinic Volunteer Training 18 and over Cold Lake and District FCSS is looking for volunteers who enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds. Income tax screening is the first point of contact for clients seeking help with income tax filing. Volunteer roles available at our upcoming Income Tax Screening Clinics include: Greeters, who welcome clients, pre-screen for program eligibility, maintain document control and flow of clients through the clinic, and Screeners, who review the clients’ paperwork and slips to ensure that the information needed to process their income taxes is correct and up-to-date and help clients with completing the paperwork when necessary. Volunteers need only attend one training session. Volunteers are welcome to help at one or more of our clinics. To volunteer and for more information on clinic dates, please contact 780-594-4495. Introduction to Mindfulness ages 18 and over Your brain is your most important asset; a power station connects your every thought, feeling and action. Without your brain there is no you. Yet people tend to take better care of their teeth, their hair and even their car then their brain. When was the last time you took a few minutes to take care of your brain? Yet you use it every single day, for everything you do! One of the ways you can take care of your brain is by practicing research-based mindfulness. In this two-hour introductory program, you will be introduced to mindfulness techniques, the science and research behind mindfulness, and why this matters to you. This program is facilitated by a Registered Social Worker, BSW, MSW. Cold Lake Youth Council ages 12-17 Cold Lake Youth Council is a youth-led, volunteer-based organization that acts as a voice for the young people of Cold Lake and as peer advocates on civic and social issues. Family Connections – Winter Blues all ages Having a strong family unit starts with creating the bond. Many times families may become disconnected within the family unit, and the bond becomes strained. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction ages 18 and over Over 75% of Canadians report experiencing some degree of stress. Stress may be experienced as headaches, muscle tension, fatigue, stomach ailments, sleeplessness, anxiety, irritability, difficulty concentrating, feeling overwhelmed and burn-out. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction is offered around the world as a means of reducing the negative effects of chronic stress and to help people develop greater compassion, acceptance and curiosity about themselves and each other.
