Cold Lake, AB – A total of $8,000 has been given out between four local groups through the Cold Lake and District FCSS Special Project Grant Program.
“This funding is set aside for specific social programs,” said Mayor Craig Copeland. “It’s not as widely known as some of our other grant programs, but it’s just as important. We would like to see more groups applying to it if they fit the criteria.”
Grant funding was awarded in the amount of $2,000 each to the following applicants:
- Alberta Health Services (AHS) Assertive Outreach Bowling Program – Community based activity for individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness such as schizophrenia.
- Cold Lake Senior’s Society – Cold Lake Senior’s Society participation in Senior’s Week, funds used to support provision of activities such as painting classes, guest speakers, a luncheon and floor curling to approximately 60 individual seniors.
- Alberta Health Services (AHS) Assertive Outreach & St. John Evangelist Church (Nurturing and Empowering Wellness) Breakfast Program – A safe space to have a normalized social experience.
- Lakeland Centre for FASD Society BBQ and Mocktail Challenge – Support for National FASD Day activities and awareness campaign.
Run though Cold Lake and District FCSS, applications must meet several guidelines to qualify, including, but not limited to a selection from:
- Be of a preventative nature that enhances the social well-being of individuals and families through promotion or intervention strategies provided at the earliest opportunity
- Help people develop independence and strengthen coping skills
- Help people develop an awareness of social needs
- Help people develop interpersonal and group skills
- Help people and communities assume responsibility for decisions and actions which affect them
An organization can apply for up to $2,000 in funding in the same year as the initiative takes place, and it must be completed by Dec. 31.
