Cold Lake, AB – A second scale at the City of Cold Lake landfill and transfer station will help to decrease wait times at the facility.
The second scale became operational earlier this week, and now allows for vehicles and their loads to be weighed in two independent lines – one entering and one exiting the facility. The second scale became a possibility when the road to the transfer station and landfill was realigned as part of efforts to extend the life of the landfill.
“This project made the most out of a necessary change,” City of Cold Lake Chief Administrative Officer Kevin Nagoya said. “Thanks to excellent project planning we are now able to extend the life of our landfill, which was nearing its capacity in the previous configuration, while at the same time making improvements that will benefit users. People can now expect shorter wait times both entering and exiting the landfill and transfer station.”
The reconfigured landfill, coupled with an enhanced waste diversion project that will be rolled out in the future, is expected to significantly extend the life of the Cold Lake Landfill.
“It’s exciting when you see staff come up with innovative solutions to problems we face,” Mayor Craig Copeland said. “This is another example of the innovation and dedication we see from our staff across a variety of projects and the end result is better service for residents.”
