Kokum’s house receives funding
Cold Lake, AB – Kokum’s House Men’s Shelter was granted $55,000 under the Social Inclusion and Infrastructure Grant, for programs and services. According to their grant applications, Kokum’s House Men’s Shelter plans to provide culturally appropriate programs and services to unhoused individuals in a safe, sober-living facility where these individuals may explore development of social and relational skills. The Social Inclusion and Infrastructure Grant was developed to create, reinvent, or enhance existing social infrastructures that helps individuals, families, groups, and communities in meeting their social needs, as well as maximize their potential for development, and enhance community well-being within the City of Cold Lake.
Council supports memorial event
Cold Lake, AB – Council passed a motion to provide a grant in the amount of the rental costs at the Energy Centre for an upcoming Alex Janvier memorial event.
“We built a strong friendship with Alex over the years,” said Mayor Craig Copeland. “We’re honoured that the Janvier Gallery would like to host this memorial in our facility.”
The event is expected to take place in the spring. Council voted to provide a grant to the Janvier Gallery in the amount of $22,100, which will cover the rental fees of the Imperial Oil Place Arena for 12 days.
Gifts for sister city’s festival approved
Cold Lake, AB – Hugelsheim, Germany, will be receiving gifts during their Spargel Festival, as part of a long-running tradition with Cold Lake’s sister-city. The festival takes place in May, and Council chose to look at sending commemorative-branded beer from Cold Lake Brewing and Distilling Co, along with local artwork and other possible gifts.
Fundraiser received city grant
Cold Lake, AB – Council will be giving a sponsorship grant in the amount of $1,000 to the 86Cancer Charity Hockey Game on Jan. 31, 2025. This grant request was sent to the Community, Recreation, Arts, Culture, and Heritage Grant, but could not meet the specific timeline for submissions, and so was brought to council by a special motion, in order for funds to be received by 86Cancer by the event.
