Cold Lake, AB – The City of Cold Lake will be receiving funds from the Alberta Relief for Shortfalls for Transit Operators program to assist in running the Cold Lake Transit system.
Through the provincially run program, $123,632.95 will be granted to Cold Lake Transit’s operating costs. The funding is intended to ensure municipalities have additional resources to address any operational challenges due to the impacts of COVID-19, and is being given out for 2022 operations.
“This funding will definitely be a boost to our transit budget,” said Mayor Craig Copeland. “We know a lot of people in our community rely on it, so we did our best to keep things moving throughout the pandemic.”
Cold Lake Transit recently moved to an accelerated schedule, allowing for faster times between stops, and eliminating the need to switch buses at the transfer centre by the mall. Two buses run an extended north-south and south-north loop throughout the day, from Monday to Saturday.
