Cold Lake, AB – The City of Cold Lake has purchased two electric vehicles to test the technology and see how electric vehicles may be integrated into the City’s fleet.
The purchases were made possible by the Municipal Climate Action Centre’s Electric Vehicles for Municipalities Program. The Municipal Climate Change Action Centre is a partnership of Alberta Municipalities, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta. Funding for the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities Program was provided by the Government of Alberta.
“We are thankful for the opportunity to test this technology and learn how it will work in our climate and how it can be integrated in our fleet,” Mayor Craig Copeland said. “We’ve seen how other communities have used electric vehicles and we’ve heard many opinions, but it’s time for our organization to see EVs in action and learn first-hand how they perform here.”
The City of Cold Lake purchased a 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5 for just over $60,000, and received an Electric Vehicles for Municipalities Program rebate of $14,000. Also purchased was a 2023 John Deere TE Electric Gator for almost $26,500, receiving an Electric Vehicles for Municipalities Program rebate of $7,937.42.
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 has been decaled for use in the Municipal Enforcement fleet, while the John Deere Gator has been assigned to the Parks department for park, trail, and cemetery maintenance, as well as for indoor use to assist with set up and tear down for events.
