Have you encountered a stay animal or lost a pet? There are different steps you can take, depending on the situation.
Stray animals are commonly taken to the Lakeland Humane Society to be reunited with their owners. If you notice a stray pet in your neighbourhood, there are two things you can do:
If your pet is lost, contact Lakeland Humane Society to see if a neighbour or Cold Lake Municipal Enforcement has taken it there. If your pet is impounded as a result of running at large, it will be taken to LHS and a fee will be charged to pick it up. If your pet has not been taken to LHS, contact Municipal Enforcement with it's description and the location from where it went missing, so officers can keep an eye out during their patrols.
If you're having trouble with stray cats, humane, harm-free cat traps may be borrowed from the Lakeland Humane Society. Cat traps are available to city of Cold Lake residents only, and require a $50 deposit which will be refunded when the trap is returned. Traps can be borrowed for one week at a time, during the spring, summer and fall. If you catch a stray cat in the trap, call Cold Lake Municipal Enforcement to have it picked up, or transport it to Lakeland Humane Society yourself. Traps must be constantly monitored to ensure animals are not held in the trap for extended periods of time. If you catch a wild animal in the trap, it's your responsibility to release it back into the wild.
