Every month, participants will have an opportunity to work on different themes, create something beautiful and get to take it home! Seniors Week Activities: June 3-7 |
Seniors’ Week is a great opportunity to honour and recognize all that seniors have contributed to making our families and Ages 65+ Monday, JUNE 3 - FCSS's Seniors' Pancake Breakfast from 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM Tuesday, JUNE 4 - Long Term Care Ice Cream Social Ice Cream and supplies will be distributed to residents, along with an ice cream card of well wishes from volunteers. If you wish to make a card, please call us and we will send you the template. Parenting Support: Triple P Tip Sheets |
Triple P gives parents simple and practical strategies to help build strong, healthy relationships, confidently manage their children’s behavior and prevent problems developing. Jr. Emotion Kits |
Identifying and expressing feelings in a positive way can be challenging for children. Developing skills to manage their feelings effectively in childhood can lead to positive attitudes and behaviours later in life. Each Jr. Emotion Kit will include social-emotional skills, self-care information, and fun activities. Each participant’s caregiver will receive a follow-up phone call with one of our Cold Lake Family Connections staff. Register for one or all of these kits. Garden Gnomes |
This program aims to improve fine motor, physical, emotional, and social skills, which support curiosity, and critical thinking. Through a medium of planting, digging, and watering, participants will engage all five of their senses while working in the Wellness Garden at FCSS and in their own garden at home. Easel Does It! |
Channel your young Da Vinci to express themselves on their very own canvas. This program is designed for the whole family to get involved in creating something beautiful. Art is supportive tool that can be used to focus on strengthening fine motor skills and encourage decision making in young children. This program will also include a light meal. Join Cold Lake and District FCSS to discuss the warning signs of elder abuse and what you can do to support our community; learn more about the role ageism plays and the impact of abusive behaviour. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day - June 15 |
Community Elder abuse is any action or inaction by self or others that puts at risk the health or well-being of a senior. Common forms of elder abuse include financial, emotional, physical, sexual, neglect, or over-medicating or withholding medication. Any senior can become a victim of elder abuse regardless of gender, sexual identity, race, ethnicity, income, or education. Elder abuse is often committed by someone known to the victim who is in a position of power, trust or authority, commonly a family member. Social isolation is a risk factor in elder abuse. Common signs of elder abuse: • Confusion • Depression or anxiety • Unexplained injuries • Changes in hygiene • Seeming fearful around certain people • Fear or worry when talking about money If you or someone you know is experiencing elder abuse, help is available. Community Friends |
This program is designed for adults who require adaptations to lead an active social life due to disabilities and community members who are interested in fostering community inclusivity. This program consists of monthly themed interactive social activities that include games and crafts. At the beginning of each program, there will be a short presentation on social skills development such as setting personal boundaries, conflict resolution or expressing your needs. Participants are welcome to bring a support person/caregiver; this is not a drop-off program. Register by Monday, June 17. Bringing Baby Home |
This program aims to help expecting and new parents/caregivers create a sense of confidence when it is time to bring baby home from the hospital. The Grub Club |
Log in and participate in the evening Grub Club class virtually! Youth will learn about healthy eating habits with the support of the New Canadian Food Guide and the importance of budgeting for meals. They will have the opportunity to create a meal for their family in the comfort of their own home while they build valuable life skills. Register for one or all these sessions. Function Junction |
Join us in Family Connections as we provide parents with information to help teach their children the foundations to executive functioning skills like self-regulation, attention and working memory. Executive functioning skills are skills that needs to be taught rather than using words like “STOP” and “DON’T.” This is an opportunity for parents to add to their parenting tool kit by learning how to teach the concepts of executive functioning through fun songs, games and activities.
