Based on the results of geotechnical investigations the City will undertake erosion control measures within the ER/MR areas along the lakeshore adjacent to 602 Beach Avenue through either physical modification or by soil bioengineering techniques. These measures will reduce the risk of slope instability in this area to protect adjacent private property.

Detailed design and environmental approvals anticipated to be completed in 2022.
During land surveying work along the lakeshore, a crack was noted on the top of the bank which was communicated to the City. Based on the review of available records and preliminary investigation, it was determined that proper geotechnical engineering work will be required to understand the extent of erosion and its impacts along with slope remediation recommendations.
At the end of 2020, the City’s geotechnical engineer provided a report detailing the evaluation of the slope stability and stabilization requirements. Options were presented to prevent future instability in the slope by either a physical modification or by soil bioengineering techniques. With the allocated funding, the City will undertake erosion control measures within the MR/ER areas to mitigate the erosion and to reduce the risk to the adjacent private property.
Approved budget: $200,000
Funding source: 2022 ID349
Undertaking erosion control measures will mitigate erosion in the area and reduce the risk of private property being impacted.
The City has a responsibility to respect the safety, health and welfare of people and the protection of people and property. Through this project the City is taking the reasonable steps to protect the people using the land and adjacent properties.
