Energy Centre to remain closed June 6

Cold Lake, AB - The Cold Lake Energy Centre will remain closed tomorrow to accommodate air quality testing before the facility will be reopened.

City of Cold Lake staff is working with local health officials to ensure the facility can be opened to the general public and resume normal operations.

The preliminary finding is that a contractor working on the Energy Centre expansion on June 4 damaged an existing ammonia line used for cooling the arena. The source of the leak was stopped and work to ventilate the building continues as a precaution.

At the time of the incident on June 4, Energy Centre staff were quickly notified of the leak and the building was evacuated. Cold Lake Fire-Rescue and Cold Lake EMS responded to the Energy Centre. No injuries were sustained.

Information regarding the reopening of the facility will be released as soon as it becomes available.
