Cold Lake council supports pipeline projects

Cold Lake, AB – Cold Lake City Council voted to send letters of support for the Trans Mountain and Keystone XL pipeline projects.

“These pipelines continue to see opposition despite years of hearings, court cases, and impact studies,” Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland said. “We know that the prosperity of our community, our province and our country is linked to their success. We wanted the companies behind these projects to know that their continued effort and their confidence in their investment is appreciated.”

Council noted that opposition continues from several governments at the provincial and municipal level, as well as from non-governmental organizations.

“A lot of attention is being given to the anti-pipeline voice at various levels and Cold Lake feels it’s important to let these companies know that their confidence in the oil patch is appreciated, and the benefits their investment will bring is needed,” Copeland said.

The decision was made at Cold Lake City Council’s March 27, 2018 regular council meeting. Letters of support will be written on behalf of the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Project and the Keystone XL pipeline expansion project.
