City asks residents to respect election campaign signs

Cold Lake, AB – The City of Cold Lake is reminding residents that campaign signs that are lawfully placed, should not be removed or damaged.

There have been reports of damaged and missing signs associated with municipal election campaigns. The City of Cold Lake is reminding residents that campaign signs are the property of the candidates and that they should not be tampered with or removed.

If a resident feels that a sign is improperly placed, they can call the Returning Officer at Cold Lake City Hall and staff will determine if the signage is in an inappropriate area.

Campaign signs can be posted from August 23, 2021 to October 20, 2021. Candidates must receive permission from property owners to place signs on private property. Signs placed on public property must be at least 7.5 meters away from intersections. Bylaw Officers may remove or request the removal of campaign signs that are improperly placed, or signs that have become unsightly or impinge on the safety of pedestrians or traffic.

The Returning Officer for the City of Cold Lake can be reached by calling City Hall at 780-594-4494 or by emailing election2021@coldlake.com.
