Cold Lake, AB – The City of Cold Lake will increase its electrical franchise fee from 4.25 per cent to 5.75 per cent in order to recoup the cost of switching to LED street lights.
The franchise fee is charged and collected by ATCO for the exclusive right to provide electrical distribution in the city. This fee is then passed on to the municipality. Cold Lake, AB – Cold Lake City Council decided not to proceed with lowering the speed limit on residential roadways from 50 km/h.
The decision came about after council was presented a report from the community engagement process that saw feedback from 900 residents living in and around the municipality. Cold Lake, AB – Cold Lake City Council was presented with the results of the 2022 Municipal Census at its Regular Council Meeting held on September 13.
The Census found a total population in the City of Cold Lake of 16,302 residents, a four per cent increase or a total of 641 residents, over the population found in the 2021 Federal Census. About 49 per cent of residents live in Cold Lake North, with 42 per cent living in Cold Lake South and the remaining eight per cent living on 4 Wing Cold Lake.

Cold Lake, AB – Residents licensing a dog or cat in Cold Lake will not be required to pay the 2023 licensing fee, after City Council gave third and final reading to a newly-updated Animal Care and Control bylaw at its regular meeting on August 23. The bylaw allows dog and cat owners to receive their 2023 license for no charge. Council also approved waiving all licensing fees for the remainder of 2022. Cold Lake, AB – The City and Cold Lake RCMP are investigating after Kinosoo Beach and the surrounding recreation area was the target of significant graffiti vandalism in the early morning of Friday, August 12. Vandals used spray paint to damage several areas including the concession stand, utility boxes, a water treatment building, the zip line platform, park signage, seating areas and the concrete retaining wall.
