Underground line locating only one click away

Cold Lake, AB – Residents and contractors are now only one click away from finding underground utility lines.

The City of Cold Lake is now a member of Alberta One-Call, which is a private, non-profit corporation that provides communication between people or contractors who intend on disturbing the ground, and the utility operators that register their buried facilities.

“This is a great step toward safety for residents of Cold Lake,” said Mayor Craig Copeland. “Joining Alberta One-Call means we’re matching the industry standard for utility locating, and it streamlines the process in getting someone out there to mark the utilities.”

Previously residents and contractors would make multiple calls to different organizations for line locates, including the City of Cold Lake, which looks after water, sanitary sewer, and storm water lines. The city also looks after some underground electrical lines associated with traffic signalization and city-owned street lighting. Through Alberta One-Call, all affected organizations will be contacted on behalf of the resident and contractors. After placing the request, Alberta One-Call will contact the city to send someone out to mark where any buried utilities are located.

By contacting Alberta One-Call before breaking ground, residents and contractors can reduce the risk of personal injury and property damage. Before taking a shovel to the earth, visit clickbeforeyoudig.com to request the locations of any underground utility lines or facilities.
